Genus - Phyllostachys, Species - bambusoides "Nigra"

One of the most popular bamboos, the culms start out green but turn a shiny black with age and sun in 2 to 3 years. It creates a striking look against its green foliage. This bamboo is cold hardy to 0° but should be sheltered from the wind. A great focal point. We sell ours in containers with multiple culms at least 10 feet tall. Matures to 25 feet under ideal conditions can reach 40 feet. Zone 7 to 10.
